We act for a victim who was sexually assaulted by Canon David Carter Rutter, who was the Precentor of Lincoln Cathedral at the time. As Precentor, his role was to lead and organise the singing and prayers during worship services, ensuring the smooth flow of liturgy and maintaining the quality of the choir.

Our client was a chorister, and the abuse occurred on multiple occasions in the Precentor’s residence in Minster Yard, Lincoln.

Canon Rutter died in 1991 after many decades serving as the precentor of Lincoln Cathedral. He never married and is thought to have 40-50 godchildren.

He appeared to escape scrutiny during his lifetime; however, it has been suggested that he had a “fondness for little boys”.

We are currently gathering evidence in support of our client’s civil compensation claim arising from the serious abuse he suffered at Rutter’s hands when he was 11 years old. We would be keen to hear from anyone who may be able to corroborate the testimony we have received so far.

If you are willing to support our client in their pursuit of justice, please contact me on 01234 360140 or email me at te@emmottsnell.co.uk
